Accepting submissions from November 9, 2022, to January 30, 2023, this year’s SkyPixel contest seeks for photo and video creators to inspire the aerial photography community through the exploration of “The Story Behind” their aerial and handheld works. With the growth of the creative imaging community, DJI and SkyPixel hope that the wealth of stunning aerial stories produced via drone technology will inspire more people to capture creative works of their own.

With a central theme of “The Story Behind,” this year’s contest will have an emphasis on storytelling, seeing participants convey a message and meaning through their submission. There are a total of ten categories, with Nature, City, Travel, Sports, Story and Vertical categories in the video contest, and Nature, Architecture, Portrait and Sports categories in the photo contest. There are no restrictions on the type or brand of drones used, and participants are free to submit as many photos or videos as they wish. Video submissions are required to be between 30 seconds and 5 minutes long.

The contest’s Judging Panel will consist of a wide range of industry professionals, including Claudio Miranda (Academy Award-winning cinematographer), Anne Farrar (Assistant Managing Editor of Photography for National Geographic Magazine), Phil Pastuhov (Director of Cinematography for films such as The Lord of the Rings), Hasselblad Master Benjamin Everett, Air Pixels founder Tobias Hägg, photographer George Steinmetz, Director of Photography Toby Strong, cinematographer Yu Jingping, and photographer Wang Ning.

For this year’s contest, SkyPixel and DJI will give away over 42 awards with a combined value of nearly $143,000. One Best Work winner in both the video and photo contest will receive the Hasselblad 907X Anniversary Edition Kit, alongside a trophy and award certificate. Winners in other categories will receive prizes such as the DJI Mavic 3, Osmo Action 3, and $13,700 in DJI Credit. The Award Announcement will take place on March 3, 2023.
