Raytheon Intelligence & Space’s maritime surveillance technologies have been successfully flight tested on board a General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) SeaGuardian unmanned aerial system (UAS) by Japan’s Coast Guard. The aircraft was fitted with a SeaVue Expanded Mission Capability (XMC) radar and AN/DAS-4 Multi-spectral Targeting System for the tests, which took place in the Hachinohe region of Aomori Prefecture.
The SeaVue XMC radar provides enhanced wide-area surveillance by rapidly and efficiently identifying targets of interest, such as small maritime vessels. SeaVue MR delivers expanded capabilities including small-target detection at longer ranges and higher altitudes, and a software-defined digital architecture to add new functionality without changing hardware.
The DAS-4 sensor suite provides next-generation high-definition electro-optical (EO) surveillance with full-motion video for identification and engagement of targets with superior accuracy. The flight tests support the Japan Coast Guard’s Strengthening Maritime Security System policy, which calls for modernized maritime technologies to protect Japan’s sovereignty.
