ROAVR today completed the process of future proofing their operations by putting their pilots through the A2 CofC and General VLOS certificate conversion course with AV8 Flight School.

ROAVR have been at the forefront of the use of SUA (small unmanned aircraft) since 2014.

Director Matt Harmsworth said “ I was keen to capitalise on the ongoing COVID19 pandemic and the associated down time to future proof our operations, inline with the EASA guidance expected to formalise in November 2020.

ROAVR’s pilots work across the UK and Europe conducting TV, Film, Survey and Inspection work so this conversion is crucial in providing our clients with confidence that our operations are inline with best practice and ensures legislative compliance”.

ROAVR chose AV8 Flight School run by Jon Anderson. Jon’s engagement with aviation spans more than 30 years; from instructing on gliders with the Air Cadets in the early 1990’s, too serving with the RAF Volunteer Reserve as a training officer, later earning an advanced diploma in Aeronautical Engineering.

Matt goes on to explain that “I have known Jon since he attended a ground school and flight assessment with myself back in I think 2015.  Jon’s approach through distance learning and examination was key to enabling this crucial CPD during the COVID crisis.”

The GVC-Convex course allows legacy PfCO holders to obtain the new EASA certification without having to study the entire GVC syllabus or pass a flight assessment (subject to recency of flying) and includes the A2 CofC course.

Matt goes on to say that “I’m delighted to get this piece of work completed.  We will be incorporating the changes into our work flow which includes providing equipment and training to companies looking to adopt drone technology and will form a key part of our engagement with Highlands and Islands Airports as they adopt drone technology.  It’s my belief that ROAVR is amongst the first, if not the first PFCO holder in the UK to go through this process”.
