Wallops Island, VA – June 2020: Sentinel Robotic Solutions (SRS) has been named one of 30 Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) award recipients and has been granted $75,000 for further development of their unmanned Sentinel Aerium aircraft. Administered by Virginia’s Center for Innovative Technology (CIT), CRCF invests in priority research and commercialization activities/businesses. This award looks to advance economic and technical expansion in Virginia through investing in small technology-based businesses that receive funds for projects in clean energy, cybersecurity, data analytics, life sciences and unmanned systems.
This grant will help SRS fully commercialize Sentinel Aerium and includes funding for design
engineering, purchase of materials, construction, research, and marketing. Positive economic impacts will be brought to the Eastern Shore of Virginia by commercializing Sentinel Aerium through expanding innovation and manufacturing in an area known for its poultry and agriculture.
“I am pleased to extend well-deserved congratulations on the CIT Commonwealth Research Commercialization Fund (CRCF) award to the Wallops Island-based Sentinel Aerium team,” said Ed Albrigo, CIT President & CEO. “Sentinel is playing a pivotal role in developing the burgeoning unmanned systems industry in Virginia. The Commonwealth is committed to maintaining its leadership position in drone technology research and commercialization. We are thrilled to recognize and support this disruptive flight endurance technology and its Virginia innovators.”
The Sentinel Aerium is an American-made, Class I, fully-autonomous UAS system boasting a winning flight time and high-weight payload. Originally designed and prototyped on Wallops Island, Virginia, the Sentinel Aerium has gone out to impress professionals from all unmanned systems verticals (private, military, DoD). Through the additional funding received from this award, SRS is in a position to help further stimulate economic development and job creation on the Virginia’s Eastern Shore. With the successful commercialization of Sentinel Aerium through the CRCF award, SRS is leading the way in engineering and aerospace opportunity on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
The SRS families would like to take a moment to thank Governor Ralph Northam for the opportunity and the CIT Team for all of the diligence and research required in choosing the best up-in-coming businesses to invest in. “We are proud to be part of the dynamic and growing Eastern Shore”, says CEO Peter Bale, “and we are humbled to receive this award.
Through these strategic investments, the state of Virginia, once again, finds itself separating from the masses and working towards creating a state eager to welcome and invest in new business and the Unmanned System industry.”
“These entrepreneurs and innovators are on the front lines of bringing new products and technologies to market, while driving job creation and supporting Virginia’s economic recovery efforts,” said Governor Northam. “I am pleased that the Commonwealth is able to support these growing companies as they develop high-potential solutions in emerging industries and build businesses from research started right here in Virginia.”
